Fish Maw Soup

Who could resist a soup described on the menu as 'Fish Gastric Soup' ? Fortunately I recognised it as Fish Maw Soup which I had tried in another stall a couple of days previously. Having enjoyed it so much the first time I had to try it again - at 30 baht a plate (50p) how could I refuse ?

Chao Phraya River

Night view across river

On their way to a Wat..... Rama VII Bridge

Thai Snack

This snack costs 30 Baht (50p) - the idea is you add some of the various ingredients (dried shrimp; fried coconut shreds, peanuts, onions, chiliies etc) and wrap them in a leaf of the enclosed 'greens' (like lettuce). Before wrapping you add some of the sticky syrup (mollases or honey?) and some lime juice....and then chew. A good way of getting your greens !!!

Away from the main roads it's easy to come across a 'village feel' to the place

Notice old buildings - some made of wood

People - Bangkok

Girl on bus

Buildings - Bangkok

Old style buildings still exist........

Bangkok Canal - Klong Phadung

Unfortunately the canal water looks pretty dirty ....... Poor shanty town on the bank......

Reminded me of Amsterdam !
No doubt one day it will be gentrified and cost a fortune to live there ?

Chao Phraya River

Just a couple of minutes walk from my hotel is a pier(Phra ArThit ) for catching one of many river boats. In a city notorious for traffic jams, it can be a quick (and cheap) way of getting from A to B. I caught a ferry from Phra Arthit pier to Sathon Pier (Central Pier) for 20 Baht and then walked as far as Hua Lamphong Train station (where I wanted to make some train enquiries). I then caught bus number 53 to Khao San Road area.
