This has got to be the most unfriendly museum in the world for pedestrians - in the middle of moterway intersections - and you have to run across a busy motorway access road (and this access to museum has improved since I first visited the place - at least there are
some signs showing way - though I managed to walk 'off track' using their directions). Obviously the person who designed the building didnt actually walk there to get to it (or give pedestrians any thought in the planning process). Inside the museum leaves a lot to be desired - ok all the modern techniques for 'museum display' are in use - but it's the content that concerns me. The last 50 years seems to be just propaganda for the ruling party. As for early years of Malaya - I was looking for more info on Chinese Kapitans and there is absolutely NO mention at all (more of this in next posting). To say they have a selective view of history on display is an under-statement. If you're Chinese or Indian looking for your community's contribution to the nation's history - you may feel a bit short-changed for the 2 Ringit entrance fee. For an interesting article by a descendant of KL's last Chinese Kapitan see:-
He also wondered why the history and contribution of Chinese Kapitans have apparently been ommitted from Malaysia's history.
